First Day of Class

Well today was interesting. I discovered when my housemother knocked on my door this morning that for the last 2 days I had been oblivious that I was living in the wrong time! Some may say, "Well, yes this is true. You talk like you're in the 1800's sometimes" but that is not what I mean. Austria had Daylight Savings Time on Sunday and I had no idea! Apparently cell phones here (Unlike mine in the US) do not automatically change time and I was uninformed about this information. So I was about 30 minutes late to class since I was woken up at 9 which is when classes start and I had to walk there. Oops! They were understanding though.

Class was good. A lot was review but some of it was new so I think I'm in the right class if it progresses steadily over the next few weeks. I am the only American in my class. There are a few girls who are 15 and then some people older than me (in their late thirties and forties). and a Priest. Apparently class is not where I will be meeting people! Well I will try and we shall see. I then went in search of a notebook since I did not think to bring one to Europe for some reason. I asked my teacher where I could find one but I could not find the store she directed me to. I went into several bookstores and a couple supermarkets but did not find one. So I will ask again tomorrow I guess! Also, on facebook I saw an add that said "Millionaire men who want to date Austrian women. Click here" Oh dear...first the green cards now the millionaires!

Lastly, my feet are going to fall off. That's all.

  1. Okay, having communicated with you via email and IM this morning, I now consider you the bravest person on the planet. Your school should be able to help with social outlet -- see if there are other classes at your level??! In any case, you'll be okay. You'll just have to keep singing, "I Will Survive" for a little longer .....

  2. Oh dear, that is what I live in fear of when I fly to Europe,,,time change ect. Never realized your phone did not adjust. My international phone also is off as its routed through UK so I can't use it for wakeup calls. Do you have a clock? Judith could take you shopping as there are malls by her and you could stock up on school supplies, ect. Have you thought of seeing if there could be another class you could add to your school experience..what are the Americans taking? Any cooking classes..I know you love history. (My mom talk :)..Have you found any bookstores? I am reading "Twilight" for the 3rd time..its raining and grey here! Your not missing anything!
Your poor feet, we must get a care package to you with some "gels" for your shoes. Heard your dvd has a comverter, cool. I will email you.

  3. I hadn't read your posts for a few days, but it sounds like you have been very busy! : ) What classes are you taking? Your mom mentioned one of the roommates moved out?? Is it possible to post something at the school or maybe let the program coordinator you need a roommate so hopefully you can get a girl from the states??? I will be praying for the perfect one for you!

  4. Mother: yes I will survive.
Elice: Yeah apparently it does not change...It was set to Vienna and even had a "daylight savings time" button but when I pressed that it was still wrong so I had to change the time manually anyway. the time on it is correct now. there is an alarm clock in my room i hadn't used before and it was unplugged so i wouldnt have known the time anyway! but now I do so it's not a problem! I'll ask my teacher tomorrow where the notebooks are..i'll get more specific diretions. I found antibiotic bandaids today though for the blisters so I think I shall be ok. I did find a bookstore with Harry Potter in English today...I have a few books at the moment (including twilight which elisabeth left) to continue reading at the moment. and these are the only classes I can take BUT i can do tours and stuff like that I just need to start that.
Tralynda: I am just taking my german class 3 hours a day! Yes, the French student moved out because she didn't have a closet in her room! which is a problem because she knew Japanese and now I can't talk to the other housemate! However, the Japanese student does move out next month and hopefully someone will take her room and the room the French student left (and they will speak english!)
